Hironobu Sakaguchi / Final Fantasy VII – Squaresoft Collector’s Video 1997 (1/3)
This first portion of the video contains an introductory promotional movie for Squaresoft and Sony, and jumps into an interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi, Producer of the now-legendary game Final Fantasy VII. The interview focuses on the technological capabilities of the Sony Playstation and how the Square team, by then riding an unprecedented wave of popularity, utilized the capabilities to produce a Final Fantasy larger in scope than any of the six that game previously. The interview has English voiceover translation and is liberally cut with game footage. About the video as a whole: This is a digital copy of a VHS video sent to members of the Playstation Underground in mid-1997, around the time of the Final Fantasy VII release. The video is primarily a promotion for Sony, who at the time was still not a dominant console gaming force; the purpose of this video was to promote Squaresoft’s PSX games and explain why Square made the jump from Nintendo to Sony. Allegedly, there are not many of these tapes in existence, with only 1500 copies created [citation needed]. I got my copy in 1998 or so, and no, I will not sell it to you.
