Sounds – A Video Poem

I created this 60-second poem using three elements, recorded over a span of twenty years in the house I grew up in. The first shot is a 2-second loop of my dad’s grandfather clock (from my1986 undergraduate feature), a shot that I repeat about 25 times (watch the middle weight and you can see the edit). I used a zoom out to give the illusion of a continual shot. The second shot of the clock is from a 1982 movie I made in high school. Only 1.7 seconds, I slowed the shot to about 13 seconds. The third element is the sound of the clock. In 2001, the very last time I was in the old house in Ft. Worth, Texas, I went around with my DAT recording sounds: all the doors, clocks, footsteps. The ghost-like figure at the end of the 1.7 second shot is the shadow of my best friend Kris, about to enter frame. I think it adds a nice effect. Hope you like the piece.
